Dental Implant Restorations

Should I Replace Missing Teeth?

Your face is interconnected in many ways! Losing a tooth can lead to bone loss and muscle deterioration. This can lead to the opposing teeth gradually extruding, which can cause other problems such as shifting of surrounding teeth, gum problems, further tooth loss and can even change the shape of your face. The replacement of a missing tooth helps to keep your mouth healthy by keeping the other teeth in place.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are tiny posts or screws made of biocompatible titanium that are surgically placed into the jawbone and gums to replace one or more missing teeth. Dental implants act as the tooth roots, which are used to anchor life-like restorations, which look, feel and function exactly like natural teeth.

It is important to remember that dental implants do not replace the crown or visible portion of the tooth, as traditional restorations such as bridges or dentures. The patient needs to have custom teeth made to fit on these implant supports. This can include replacing one missing tooth with a crown and an implant, and multiple missing teeth using an implant-supported bridge or complete sets of teeth with implant-supported dentures.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants are able to prevent the loss of jawbones and stimulate bone and tissue growth. This will create a stronger foundation for your smile. Other benefits of implants include:

  • A better appearance. Implants are stronger than natural teeth, but still, look and feel the same.
  • Improved speech. Improperly fitting dentures can make it difficult to talk. Implants allow you to speak confidently and not worry about your teeth falling out.
  • Durability. Implants can last many years if taken care of.
  • Greater comfort. Implants become part of your body. This eliminates discomfort from wearing removable dentures and missing teeth.
  • Easier dining. Implants work exactly like natural teeth when it comes to chewing and eating.
  • Improve self-esteem. Implants can improve your smile and help you feel more confident.
  • Convenience. Implants eliminate the embarrassment and need for messy adhesives to keep dentures in place.

Success Rate of This Treatment

The success rate of this restorative procedure will vary depending on the location of the implant. In most cases, dental implants have a success rate of up to 98%. The best part about implants is that they can last you a lifetime if you care for them properly!

Can I Get Dental Implants?

A patient must have strong healthy gums, sufficient bone, and enough bone to support the implant. If this is not the case, Dr. Greenberg will advise a dental treatment plan to achieve this or recommend treatments to achieve this through the restoration process. Patients interested in receiving dental implants should also commit to good oral hygiene practices and regular visits to the dentist. It is important to note that patients who smoke, have heart disease or chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and/or have had radiation treatment to the head/neck must be assessed by our dentist to determine if dental implant treatment is possible.
